Bigwin Island Cottage

Bigwin Island is a golf community that does not allow cars or other vehicles.  The clients wanted to achieve both privacy and golf cart access to their lovely country home for their athletic children, family and guests.  The building is nestled into the beautiful on-site rocks, and was carefully sited to reduce the need to remove existing trees.

Accessing this country home and cottage on Bigwin Island on Lake of Bays in Muskoka is lots of fun and only golf carts for the golf course and delivering groceries to your country home or camp are allowed.

Lake Rosseau Cottage

Built as an adult getaway on a larger site with an existing family cottage, this pavilion building combines the rustic feel of a pine cottage with the clean and open feeling of contemporary living.

The structure sits in a forest upon a stepped podium, rotated perpendicular to the shoreline. The podium extends from a higher elevation at the North, down to the sand beach at the South. It also functions as a covered deck and visually extends the plane of the interior finished floor to the outside, making the building feel larger than it is.

The interior pine finishes glow as sunlight spills in through wall-high and clerestory glazing. Partition walls were omitted, save for the shared wall of the kitchen and bathroom, to create a singular space whose program is articulated by the architectural framing of the roof above.
